(NewMediaWire) - June 29, 2016 - DALLAS - On July 1, 2016, Dallas cardiologist Joseph A. Hill, M.D., Ph.D., will assume the position of editor-in-chief of Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association. A professor of Internal Medicine and Molecular Biology, Hill is Chief of Cardiology and Director of the Harry S. Moss Heart Center at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where he holds the James T. Willerson, M.D., Distinguished Chair in Cardiovascular Diseases and the Frank M. Ryburn Jr. Chair in Heart Research. Hill earned his medical and PhD degrees from Duke University School of Medicine in Durham. His post-doctorate education was in the laboratory of Molecular Neurobiology at the Institut Pasteur, in Paris, France, and at Brigham and Women’s Hospital at Harvard Medical School in Boston. An active volunteer for the American Heart Association for over 10 years, Hill currently serves as a member of the association’s National Research Committee and the Committee for Scientific Sessions Program. He is also on the editorial boards of the association’s journals Circulation, Circulation Research, and Circulation: Cardiovascular Genetics, and he has served on the editorial boards of other journals such as the American Journal of Physiology, Heart and Circulatory Physiology; American Journal of Cardiovascular Drugs; Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology; Current Cardiology Reviews; Journal of Biological Chemistry; Autophagy; and American Journal of Cardiology. Hill authored the book Muscle: Fundamental Biology and Mechanisms of Disease that spans the spectrum of fundamental, basic science, translational biology, disease mechanism and therapeutics. The book was designed to complement the main clinical textbooks that exist in cardiology. Hill has also authored more than 180 peer-reviewed articles. His own research focus is in the molecular biology of pathological cardiac remodeling, seeking to devise strategies to arrest, slow or even reverse disease progression in the heart. “We are confident that Dr. Hill and his team will bring the highest possible level of energy, dedication and commitment to excellence in the publication of cardiovascular research,” said Robert M. Carey, M.D., Chair of the American Heart Association’s Scientific Publishing Committee and Dean, Emeritus, and University Professor at the University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville, Virginia. Joseph Loscalzo, M.D., Ph.D., has served as editor of Circulation since 2004.
